The world food programme
The World Food Programme (WFP) is contributing to help change the world hunger. Some
of their projects include...
- School projects: WFP provides breakfast and lunch to children who usually go to school hungry. They have been providing these school meals to around 22 million children in 60 different countries for more than 50 years. By feeding the children, they will be more willing to learn, more concentrated and will be healthier. WFP works with the government to keep this program and other WFP programs running. Studies show that it is more difficult for children to learn on an empty stomach so this program is highly benefiting hungry children. Only US $0.25 will fill up a bowl of porridge, rice or beans and give a monthly ration to take home. Only US $50 will feed one child for an entire school year.
- Food for assets: WFP's food for assets projects pay workers with food to start building a positive future for them and
their communities. They are given food in exchange for work. Once they have eaten, they can learn new skills to increase their quality of living. Some of the projects include learning skills to build new schools in their communities and helping people set up home gardening businesses therefore, they will be set up with food for life.
- Purchase for progress (P4P): P4P is a program that is run by WFP. It helps farmers especially women grow and sell their food,
to earn more and to become more competitive with their local markets. They have grown in 20 developing countries. There are more opportunities for marketing for smaller farms and it is also teaching new skills to these farmers.
